  1. Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai is a sad yet wonderful story full of excitement. This book is about a girl named Ha who is 10 and was born in Vietnam. The Vietnam War has started and has reached her home. Ha and her family are forced to leave their home in Saigon. They take a ship to America looking for hope, but will they ever find it? Ha’s father went to fight in the war but the family hasn’t heard from him since. When the family is on the boat they hear bombs going off in the distance. Everyone on the boat was crowded and very sweaty. What will Ha’s family do next? Will Ha ever see her father again? Read the book to find out but be prepared for sad events for not everything in the book will be something happy!!

  2. Inside Out and Back Again, by Thanhha Lai, is a narrative poetry book about a young girl named Ha. At the height of the Vietnam War, Ha is forced to leave Vietnam with her family. Ha’s father is missing, and the family leaves for America knowing that the father would not find them if he came back. Ha is teased by everyone, and Thanhha Lai describes Ha’s story of sadness, sympathy, bravery, and victory. As Ha’s story unravels, you get closer and closer to the series of heart-breaking events, and you appreciate the book’s magnificence. The one question I had throughout the book was “will Ha ever win over sadness?” Read the book to find out.

  3. Inside Out and Back Again is a wonderful story about a Vietnamese girl who has to move before the dreadful war hits. She is having trouble in her new home in America. She cannot speak English and is getting teased by her classmates. To top that misery, she has no idea where her father is. Will she ever be reunited with him? For anyone who likes a good drama, this is a must read. I enjoyed this book on many levels. First I love the realistic life of this girl struggling in a new country. Second the ongoing adventures of the family that is fleeing.

  5. Inside Out and Back Again

The book Inside Out and Back Again is an exquisite story about a young girl named Ha, whose life is turned inside out when the Vietnam War starts. To top it all off, her father is M.I.A (missing in action). She then has to move to America, but has trouble fitting in because she can’t speak English. She is bullied quite a bit at her new school. To fit in Ha starts taking English lessons from her new neighbor Miss Scott. Even though Ha knows some English now it doesn’t stop her bullying. Will Ha ever fit in? Will the bullying ever stop? Well I guess you’ll have to read this marvelous book to find out.
